IT’S A GOOD THING

     It is good to give thanks to the Lord And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High (Psalm 92:1).

     In the various events of creation, Moses repeated the words, it was good. The Hebrew word can have many meanings, but here it means to have within it the purpose for which it was created – without flaw or imperfection. Giving thanks to the Lord, and singing praise to Him is a good thing. It means we acknowledge before God that all He permits in our life is for His great purpose and our greater benefit.

      God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:23). All things – not just the good, but also the not so good. And because God causes all things to work to our benefit, an expression of gratitude to God is always in order. “What grander or better virtue is there than appreciating the source of goodness, its value, and the acknowledgment of our own indebtedness. Those who never give thanks miss one of the essential attributes of human nature, namely, gratitude” (Herbert Lockyer).

     Giving thanks to God affects Him. It brings joy to His heart. Every song of praise we sing to Him reaches His ear. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above, you heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.
