Jesus Is Coming Again
May 11, 2021
For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and ‘will then repay every man according to his deeds’ (Matthew 16:27).
Jesus Christ is coming again. That day will be a day of judgment for the righteous and the unrighteous, the saint and the sinner. As stated earlier (in the Book of Daniel) this judgment is certain. King David sang (Psalm 62:11-12), Once God has spoken; twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God, and lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord, for You recompense (reward) a man according to his work. The Apostle Paul wrote (Romans 2:5-8), But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who ‘will render to each person according to his deeds’: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.
Romans 14:12 reveals that everyone of us will give an account of him/herself to God. Matthew 25 reveals our Lord’s declaration of the coming judgment upon the nations. While it may seem that great emphasis regarding this judgment is upon our works, the truth is simply this: faith is seen by our works (James 2:14-26; Ephesians 2:10). We are not saved by our works, but we are saved to do good works. So, good works is a sign of salvation. Evil works (sinful, worldly, ego-centric conduct) is a sign of an unrepentant and unregenerate life.
But the real criteria for the coming judgment is this: ‘Who is Jesus and what have you done with Him?” Salvation is by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ - God’ only provision for mankind to be saved. (Romans 10:9-10) . . . if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
If a person has denied self, taken up his/her cross, and is following Jesus, if he/she has believed and received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, he/she is saved and has eternal life. If a person has not done these things, he/she is not saved and does not have eternal life. One’s conduct proves which one a person truly is.
On the day of judgment, those whose works the Lord rejects are those who have rejected the Lord. When is the day of judgment? For the Christian it is the day of his/her resurrection at the 2nd coming of Christ. For the non-Christian it is the day of his/her resurrection at the Great White Throne Judgment at the end of time.
“Lord, may we be prepared for the coming judgment in our own lives, and may we help prepare others for that day. May we examine our lives to know the truth about ourselves and our faith in Jesus, or our lack thereof. To Your praise and glory and to our salvation I ask, Amen.”
