The Coming Kingdom: Part 3

September 2, 2021

Then Peter answered and said to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?" So Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first (Matthew 19:27-30).

When Jesus establishes His Kingdom on earth, He will reign over the earth for 1,000 years. This is called the Millennial Kingdom. That term is not cited in Scripture, but the truth of it is (Revelation 20:1-3). Millennia is Latin for 1,000. Jesus states that all believers will reign with Him on thrones (Revelation 3:21; 20:4) The number 12 is symbolic of God’s government on earth. The Old Testament Jews were divided into 12 tribes. The New Testament Christians began with the 12 Apostles.

The Millennial Kingdom is not the final, eternal state of things (Revelation 21:12-14). It is simply the reality of the Kingdom Jesus came to establish in His first advent. That Kingdom did not come because the Jews rejected Jesus as Messiah and King.

When the earth is restored during the Millennial Kingdom, righteousness will thrive throughout the earth. Peace will flourish. Jerusalem, which will be the seat of the Millennial government, will be exalted. Health and healing will be experienced by all humanity. The earth will be productive beyond measure - more than ever before. The age of humans (non-resurrected saints who survive the Great Tribulation) will be extended because the original curse of physical death will be suspended. The fear that exists between man and beast will eliminated, and the violence between men will end.

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea (Isaiah 11:6-9).

Jesus Christ will then receive all the nations as His inheritance and have the entire restored earth as His possession. He will rule for 1,000 years as King of kings, and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16; Daniel 7:13-14).

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, for the promise of the coming Kingdom. Thank You that You have provided for us a place in that Kingdom, and that we will reign with You over all the earth, bringing all things under Your authority and glory. Come quickly, Lord Jesus, Amen.”
