Podcast FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

This page is dedicated to the questions we receive about the Podcasting ministry at Winton First Baptist Church. If you have a question others might find helpful, please submit it to podcast@wintonchurch.org and we will consider it for inclusion into this list. (Please be specific with your questions.) Until then, please enjoy other questions and answers previously submitted.

1 - When did you start Podcasting? What is available in Podcasts? How much do the Podcasts cost?

We began Podcasting in January, 2007 when Pastor Martin started a sermon series named "Studies in the Revelation." Pastor Martin is a gifted and knowledgeable preacher and teacher and does not shy away from the book of Revelation because he has spent his career studying it. We knew Pastor Martin would give this book of the Bible full treatment and we thought it a great time to begin Podcasting so others could enjoy these insightful sermons. So for the most part, until this sermon series is completed, you will find audio recordings of the message from the 11:00 a.m. worship service posted each week.

From time to time, we have guest speakers who deliver the morning sermon. In those cases, we maintain the continuity of weekly Podcasting by posting their messages too.

And for the record, this is all free for you. There is no cost. We do this because we love Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savoir and hope that through these Podcasts, you will enjoy saving faith in His open arms.

2 - What do I need to listen to a Podcast?

This could be a long involved answer but I will give you the short version. First, you need a computer that is connected to the Internet. From the navigation bar on each page, select Podcasts. The Podcast page will open. From there, you may either listen to the sermon online or download it to your computer. If you download it to your computer, you may listen to it on your computer with your preference of music players.

In addition, and this is the recommended method if you want to download these files each week, download iTunes (click here to download iTunes for free) and install it on your computer. Once you have iTunes downloaded, you may go to the church Podcast page and click on the iTunes logo in the sidebar. That will lead you through a subscription process, also free, that will automatically download files from the site you subscribe to (the church Podcasts) each time one is posted. No mess, no fuss. This is the absolute easiest way to stay up to date on the sermons at Winton First Baptist Church. If you need more assistance with this, feel free to contact a member of the A/V Ministry and they will be happy to assist you. Before I quit, I should acknowledge that there are many other capable programs with which you may subscribe to Podcasts. iTunes is our only our favorite.

3 - Your pastor sounds like Alvin the chipmunk!

Thank you for the report. You are not the first to report such an experience while attempting to play the Podcast with the online player. From time to time users contact us with the same feedback. The Podcast host site uses an Adobe Flash format to stream the audio file to you. It has been our experience that this "chipmunk" problem is easily solved by having users update their Flash players. If you experience any of the Podcasts playing at excessive speeds, you likely need to update the Flash player on your computer. The Flash player is a free download from adobe.com. Here is a link that will take you directly to the Flash player download page at adobe.com:

Download Free Adobe Flash Player

Simply follow the instructions on this page. Once you install the updated Flash player on your computer, the speed at which you hear the Podcast should be normal. If you update your Flash player to the current version and continue to have this problem, please let us know. Thanks for the comment. Hopefully it will help others who have had this same experience. -Mike
